Summer is well underway and I have some exciting new publications to share with you.
Although it has technically been a couple of months since these came out, I thought I would highlight the poems I've recently had published in River City Poetry. Three of my poems appeared in the spring issue of the online publication. Two of the poems were written during last summer while I was working towards my master's thesis. One of them was written over two years ago! Please feel free to read them and enjoy. I'm very happy that they've appeared in a journal local to my home city of Wichita.
While I normally read and write poetry, I read this memoir that captured my attention so much so that I just had to review it. Smarsh's Heartland has been receiving rave reviews about its candidness around working class life in the Midwest. Because it is set near and in Wichita, so much of the memoir felt uncannily like my own life. If you'd like to read more of what I thought about the book, please read my review of it. Now up on Entropy.
Another fun bit of news about Heartland: I'm going to be teaching it this fall. I am currently designing an Introduction to Literature course that centers around Midwestern texts and identity. Heartland fits in perfectly with my plan for the course and I am so excited to share it with my students.
