A Story a Day #66: Dorothy Parker

April 28th, 2020

"You Were Perfectly Fine"

Dorothy Parker

A man and a woman have a discussion about the night before. He is very hungover and doesn't remember hardly anything. She recounts all the things that happened and eases all his worries. Finally, she asks if he remembers the taxi ride where he apparently confessed his feelings to her. He acts like he remembers. He laughs and says perhaps he should join a monastery to repent for his sins, but she says she's never letting him go. She leaves to get him a drink and he laughs uncomfortably.

I found this story quite funny. I have a lot of friends who like to drink (don't we all) but I don't much. It is not uncommon for me to have to recount what happened from the night before. I'm sure lots of people can relate to the dread of learning about all the dumb things that you did but don't remember. At least no one has really confessed their love to me while drunk! Oh wait...
